Lloyd 31st in Willunga Hill

The 5th stage of TOur Down Under, 151,5 km from Mc Laren Vale to the hilly arrival of Willunga Hill, was the topic moment of the Australian race for what concerns the overall standing. Lampre-ISD’s hopes were on Matthew Lloyd, but the Aussie climber had to face an enemy that was stronger than the climbs: the wind. In fact, because of the wind Lloyd had to chase the bunch before the first passage on Willunga Hill and he managed to join the group thanks to the perfect support he received from his team mates. Lloyd passed the top of the hill in the head position of the group, but again he had to try to chase the head peloton (only 20 riders in it) because of the wind: he reached the arrival in 31st position with a gap of 2’35”.

“It’s a pity Matthew could not use his good shape on climbs because of wind troubles – sport director Vicino said – Also the team supported him properly, but we could not obtain the result we were aiming”.
