Gp Lugano – Scarponi’s debut, there’s Cunego too

In Gp Lugano (Sunday, March 26th) Scarponi (photo Bettini) will start his agonistic 2012 season. The Swiss race will be in fact his first race since Memorial Pantani 2011 (October).
He won’t be the only captain of Lampre-ISD to be at the start of Gp Lugano, in fact Damiano Cunego too will pedal on the Swiss roads.
In the blue-fuchsia team, that will be directed by Maurizio Piovani, there will be also Grega Bole, Matthew Lloyd, Daniele Pietropolli, Alessandro Spezialetti, Simone Stortoni and Diego Ulissi.

“Of course the attention of the cycling fans will be focused on Scarponi and Cunego – Piovani said - Michele will be at his first day of race, so it will be difficult for him to be at the top, while Damiano has already performed three days of races and this fact will allow him to be more competitive. It’s important to point out that most of the team members has just come back from the mountain trainings on Etna: they’re Lloyd, Spezialetti, Stortoni and Ulissi. In addition, there will be Bole and Pietropolli”.

“I can’t wait to debut: I’m not a young boy anymore, but the thrills of the first seasonal race are still strong for me – Scarponi said – I’v already collected a good quantity of trainings, even if it’s true that I need to improve the race pace. On Sunday, I’d like to evaluate the effects of the trainings I performed on Etna  with my team mates: I’ll try to be in the heat of the race, let’s see if I ate too much in Sicily!”.

These are Cunego’s aims for the race: “I’ve not raced so much in this period, but this fact allowed me to perform very good trainings. Gp Lugano is characterized by a very interesting course, that doesn’t give you time and space to rest. Let’s evaluate what I’ll be able to obtain”.
