Michele Scarponi could not realize a top performance in the final time trial of Tirreno-Adriatico. On the 9,6 km course in San Benedetto del Tronto, Lampre-ISD’s captain recorded the 68th time, 55″ higher than the winning one of Cancellara (1st).
Because of this performance, Scarponi completed Tirreno-Adriatico in 7th position, at 1’16″ to Nibali, who became final leader of the overall classification after the the time trial.
The best blue-fuchsia rider was Malori, even if his performance was not so brilliant: 17th at 25″.
“I’m not satisfied, because I was willing to enter in the top 5 of the overall classification – Scarponi said (photo Bettini) – The time trial was not so suitable for me, but I thought I could be more competitive”.
